A heavy and stout African Tribal Bust of a Man, carved from richly native ebony Ironwood. The form is given ample fullness in the artist’s detailed work and holds a striking appearance that shows their skill well. A very good example of art done by those possibly of East Central Africa, on its base are set 4 tabletop felt protectors.
Ironwood species found across the world are becoming endangered in many areas from heavy demand. It takes forever to grow and upon harvesting can last a millennium, once properly cured after cutting it will not split. Africa’s Black Ironwood is the most expensive of the global Ironwood types. Being the artist here can use such large wood stock to make their work, is in itself more uncommon.
It also is seen with the Americas desert Ironwood, and when the supply dwindles the beautiful creations made from it will be scaled down. So any art from such larger wood will be understood as old and indubitably more prized.
