The candlestick holders are plated, in cleaning avoid paper towels including the use of metal cleaners (for the acid they form) even alcohol and just use water with a soft cloth. Plated metal surfaces should never be polished due to the unknown thinness of plating many manufacturers employ globally. There are good grade non-automotive wax’s that work and are time tested on things like centuries old weaponry, Renaissance Wax comes to mind. Course depends on what we trust to do the job the best.
